So Charlie and I have decided not find out the sex of our baby. I always knew if I got pregnant I would want to keep it a surprise and although Charlie wasn’t sure at the beginning, now he loves that it’ll be a surprise too. He was worried it would mean we couldn’t get prepared, which is what most people assume but I would have always had a neutral pram, car seat room etc anyway. Its definitely stopped me from excessive buying, especially girls clothes because they are so bloody cute!
The only stressful thing I’ve found, is that we are still discussing girl and boy names! Naming a baby is really tricky, you’ll suddenly realise how many people you actually dislike by going through name lists haha. Then you find one you like and somebody tells you they don’t like it, or you realise how common it is and that it has a weird meaning…. anyway I think we are agreed on two girl names, both family names that mean a lot to me and we have one boy name that we keep going back to, so I think it’s our winner.
Now although I don’t officially want to know my baby’s sex, my favourite game is asking anyone and everyone what they think the baby is and I ask Charlie most days much to his despair! Most people think girl but most family members think boy?!?!?! I keep going from one to another.
There’s so many old wives tales and tricks to ‘find out the babies sex’ so i thought I’d share them here.
My friend sent me this Chinese birth chart that’s accurate for her and her brother. According to this, I will be having a boy! I’d love to know if it worked for you in the comments please? 💙
1. Cravings for sweet or salty
The old wives’ tale suggests the flavour of which you are craving in your pregnancy will tell you whether you are having a boy or a girl. If all you have is a sweet tooth, then this is set to mean you are carrying a girl, after all, girls are made from sugar and spice so the rhyme goes. If it is the extra salty crisps you keeping grabbing for, then this means you are having a boy.
I have been eating so much chocolate 💖
2. The ring challenge
This is a really famous old wives’ tale. If your fingers haven’t swollen so much you feel like your wedding ring will have to be surgically removed at some stage, slip it off and tie it to a piece of string. The idea is you hang it over your belly and if it swings in a circle you can expect a baby girl and if it goes back and forth, you will be having a little boy.
Mine swung side to side 💙
3. Higher or lower?
Many people who throw this one at you during your pregnancy. The tale goes that if your bump is high you’re having a girl and if your bump is lower down, a boy is on his way.
Mine is high 💖
4. The sickness test.
If the term morning sickness sums up your first trimester, or even your whole pregnancy, the signs say a girl is coming. If morning sickness was barely an issue, a boy it is.
I had no sickness 💙
Yesterday I asked my midwife to guess and she said a boy, based on the heart beat and bump but the baby’s heart beat was 144 and according to the chart above that means a girl 🤷🏽♀️ so that’s really not giving me a clear indication at all, my answers are completely 50/50…. which makes sense as the chances are 50/50 😂 It’s only a 15 week countdown until we will know for sure!!
